Stranger In Our Neighborhood Crashed Into Our Parked Car. Didn’t Get His Insurance Info And He Is Now Avoiding Calls. What Are Our Options?
A couple months back in July or so, a person from our same neighborhood (literally a street down) crashed into our parked car. We did not get insurance information nor was a police report filed. Our neighbor and us heard the commotion and came outside to discover what had happened. He gave us his name, address, and phone number and said he would pay for the damages out of pocket. He was also wearing a fedex uniform but was driving his personal car. We have a photo of his license. We stupidly trusted him. All said and done, the damages were ~5k to the body of our car. Now, we are trying to see if there’s any way to get our money owed. I believe we’ve filed some suit but with the person dodging our calls, family covering for him when we go by his house (oh he’s not here, you need to call him directly, etc. etc.), we have less than a month to serve (?) him aka find him before the case gets dismissed. What options do we have at this point?
