Small Claims Judge Ordered Me To Do Something Illegal
Location: Los Angeles, CA I bought a car through Facebook marketplace, but the odometer was rolled back, the registration was expired, and I didnt get a bill of sale, making it impossible to transfer the title or register the vehicle.
I took the seller to court. The judge ruled that he needs to refund me for the vehicle, but wouldn't even look at my four months of lost wages and transportation expenses. pretty much said "maybe don't get scammed next time", and dismissed the case with prejudice. whatever.
She gave me a new court date for early December to get the refund and return the vehicle. She told me to drive the car to the courthouse for the exchange. She was aware the car isn't registered, she even hesitated before telling me to drive it to the court.
She is asking me to knowingly illegally drive an unregistered vehicle. That's ridiculous right?
Part two of the issue is that the car no longer starts. I start it once a week to move it out of the trash guy's way, other than that I haven't driven it. This morning it wouldn't start. So even if I wanted to drive it to the court as the judge ordered, I can't.
I was in hold with the court for hours today, kept getting transferred to different lines. Finally got the department I needed, but when I call, a man literally whispers "department 90" and then hangs up. So it seems that contacting the court isn't possible. really weird.
Anyone have any advice? The case was dismissed with prejudice so I can't appeal. the judge said she was tired of Facebook marketplace cases and essentially she just didn't want to hear the case at all.
