Pa: Roommate Property Abandoned
Location: PA
Moved into a two-bedroom apartment in December 2024 with another person on an 11-month lease. I attempted to open dialogue in July about taking over the lease on my own because the living situation was not working out. It turned out that this person is crazy vindictive and manipulative, big surprise, and everything ended up dragging out for a few months because of them. Just another "roommate from hell" ordeal.
They ended up moving out of the apartment October 5 and refused to sign the form releasing them from the lease, so they remained on the lease until it expired November 13. They left behind a dresser and few odds and ends that I moved to the storage closet and I've attempted contact numerous times regarding it being picked up by them. Which leads me to my question:
How long do I HAVE to keep their stuff before I can dispose of it?
I am not the landlord, I'm just a tenant stuck with a previous tenant's property. I've tried finding information on this type of scenario with no luck since everything is geared towards landlords/property owners. At this point, it's not a HUGE inconvenience, it's just blocking my ability to get to the other stuff in the storage closet, but I want it gone ASAP. I'd like to be able to move on with my life after going through hell, simple as that! Thank you for your help!
