Nyc Corporation - Unpaid Wages For Almost Two Pay Periods

Card image cap

Location: New York, New York

--

Hi,

I am a new college grad working at a big corporation in NYC. I was getting paid hourly during a training program and have been on salaried after training has finished. However, payroll did not properly change my pay type so I was unpaid by more than half of what I was owed on the 9/15 payday as they kept me on hourly for weeks after the training program had finished.

I contacted payroll and they said that they acknowledge the missing monies owed and would make an adjustment to my upcoming 9/30 paycheck to include the missing amount along with ensuring I am now salaried. I got access to my payslip on my payroll system and it says I am going to be paid "$0.00". When I checked the payslip, it classified me as an hourly employee and not salaried. Since I didn't clock hours for the past few weeks as it labeled me as "hourly", it seems it says $0.00 (and was also the same issue for the 9/15 payday). They also messed up my NYC pay data notice and it took weeks to get a corrected copy to sign.

I am hoping that on Monday it will be fixed but I am considering filing a claim with the NYC Department of Labor for unpaid wages/theft of wages, should I not be paid what I am owed on 9/30. I wanted to hear about any advice to consider before filing this claim or if I should consider alternative options. I am a new grad and don't want to ruin a relationship with my first employer, but it feels inexcusable to not be getting paid on-time in a VHCOL city.

Any advice or comments are welcome. Thank you!
