Neighbor Is Dumping Their Septic And Now We Have E. Coli On Our Water

Location: Hernando county, FL Hey everyone my wife and I are first time homeowners. We are also on a well. So we have noticed our neighbors (they are renting) pumping their septic into their yard for a couple of months now and it’s really gross because we can smell sewage from our porch and it’s obviously very unsafe and illegal.

Well we got our water tested by the DOH and it came back positive for E. coli and fecal coliforms. We shocked our well but did it at home test and it came back positive again which is further proof that they are contaminating our well.

The cherry on top is we have talked to them first. They were afraid of the owner raising the rent and said they would fix it. Then we wrote them a letter, then they came over and screamed at us. Finally we have filed a complaint with the DOH so we are in the midst of that.

We have to install some sort of UV filter or something, but I feel like we shouldn’t have to pay for it. What do yall think? Thank you!
