Leak Left For Months Causes Thousands In Excess Usage, Landlord Wants Us To Pay
Location: Maryland
Mostly what it says up top. Basically, we moved into our place almost two years ago. When we first moved in, we noticed the water pressure was very, very low. We informed the landlord and she told us to call a plumber, so we did and paid for him to tell us there wasn't much we could do. Now, almost two years later, she notices a jump in her mortgage caused by excess charges. We had, at no point, been receiving water bills regarding the account. She said that she hadn't noticed because she just pays what it normally is, and never received a paper bill. She had a plumber come out and he removed a regulator reducing the pressure and fixed a leak that had caused the incurred charges. Now, she's saying we're responsible for a few grand split between us and the house in front of us on our water line. I'm just curious if, because of our trying to mitigate the situation when we first moved in, we have any recourse, legal or otherwise?
