Macbook Missing After Small Social Gathering, How Should I File A Police Report And What Information Is Relevant?
I’m planning to file a police report tomorrow for a missing/stolen MacBook and I want to know what the correct legal procedure is and what information I should give.
Location: Romania
Two nights ago I had a small gathering (5 people total). My MacBook (13” M4, less than a month old) was stored in a drawer in my bedroom. One guest — someone I had just met that night — was left alone in that room for around 10 minutes. Another guest saw the MacBook in the drawer earlier in the night.
The next morning, the MacBook was gone. I searched my entire apartment thoroughly.
“Find My” shows “No Location Found,” and it has not come online since. I have activated lost mode.
I want to file a report, but I’m unsure how to present the situation without making an accusation without evidence. All I have is: • The device was in the bedroom drawer. and 3 people out of 5 know it was there (one of them being the guy) • Only 5 people had access to the apartment. • The guy was left alone in the room. • The device is now missing. • “Find My” provides no data.
Questions: 1. When filing a police report, do I list everyone who was in the apartment? 2. Should I mention that one person was alone with the device? 3. Is the lack of a last known location normal if the device is shut down? 4. Is there anything specific I should bring (serial number, proof of purchase, Apple ID screenshots, etc.)?
