I Was Assaulted By My Ex-husband, What Next?

things that have already been done:

-all locks changed

-he has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault and criminal trespass

-there is a temporary order of protection against him that applies to me, but not to our two young kids (4 and 2 years old)

but what else can or should I do legally to protect myself and more importantly, my children? He came in through a door that we don't frequently use and that I didn't realize he knew the code to. Luckily our children were sleeping and they didn't witness anything. I had to have surgery as the result of my injuries and was just discharged from the hospital yesterday. A friend who was keeping the kids came and changed the locks and cleaned the house thoroughly for me.

I don't know if, legally, there's anything else I could or should be doing. I still feel like I'm wandering around in a dream. He was bonded(? bailed? i don't know) out before his court date. Do *I* need a lawyer? How do I make sure that my children and I are generally protected legally? Is it possible to get an order of protection for the children as well, even if no harm came to them?
