Got Locked Out Of The House.
Location: Washington State
I live in Washington State and have been living in the same home since I was born. My mom is the primary tenant on the lease, but the lease also lists her “and her 3 children,” which includes me.
Recently, she locked me out of the house because my boyfriend was helping me carry things inside. He’s been staying at the house since January with her full knowledge and the landlord’s awareness. She’s now saying he’s a trespasser, and when the police came, they told me that my mom has the full legal right to keep me (and him) out of the house even though my ID has this address on it and I’ve lived here my entire life.
I haven’t been given any kind of eviction notice, and they’ve given him an illegal one and blocked his vehicle in the driveway and wouldn’t move a month ago, and we have helped pay bills and rent in the past. I just want to know if it’s legal for her to lock me out without notice, and if my boyfriend is really considered a trespasser when he’s been here for almost a year with everyone’s knowledge.
I was able to get let back in only when the cops showed up.
What steps can I take to protect my rights as someone listed on the lease?
