Apparent Sexual Abuse At The Nursery Where My 16 Month Old Daughter Was 2x Per Week - We Aren’t Being Told Anything

Location: South Carolina

My (39m) wife (35f) teaches 2x a week at a school that is for home schoolers to bring their kids in for classroom instruction 2x a week. Our kids are not homeschooled but we do have a 16 month old baby girl and she stays at the nursery provided for teachers with young kids. The ages in the nursery range from a few months old to 2-3. Last week we were told the nursery was closing indefinitely and the school itself closed for a whole week due to a witness incident and serious allegations in the nursery. Further we were told that it all had to remain confidential because both parties were minors. The strong suggestion we received was that this was a student at the school somehow abusing one of the nursery children. We were only told - “if your kid was involved, you’d know”. (Which only tells me no one actively caught anything happening with my daughter.)

The principal was originally going to have a small meeting with parents of kids in the nursery but canceled last minute at the advice of her lawyer. Now we are being completely shut out not knowing:

• Was our daughter potentially exposed to abuse?

• Was she ever left unattended by the ladies that work in the nursery?

• Do they suspect the opportunities for abuse COULD have been more widespread but the principal is trying to protect herself from liability so not speaking about it?

She originally told us she wasn’t allowed to comment because it’s an active investigation with the local police. BUT, the local Methodist church that hosts the school had a meeting to say classes could resume, but without the nursery. (Which tells me they knew enough about the incident or situation to make a call)

Where do we even go from here? Our daughter seems fine physically, never came home upset, but being kept in the dark about what she may have been exposed to is eating us up. My wife at this point is not planning on going back to work when classes restart next week unless we somehow know more and get some reassurances. Do we have any courses of action to get some answers or are we just SOL?
