Got Arrested For Something I Did Not Do

Location: Tennessee, US I was arrested last week for aggravated assault for an alleged road rage incident where an individual allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at a young female. Cops showed up at my house in the middle of the night and did “an investigation” where they said that a vehicle matching my description was involved in the incident. The only descriptions that they had were 4 door sedan that was driven by a non white person. Me like probably thousands of others match that very vague description. I’ve never committed a crime and have never been arrested, therefore I complied with what the cops requested. I don’t own a weapon but I do own a B B Gun that resembles a fire arm that I had on top of my fridge at the time and it has never been in my vehicle. Despite me defending every and any allegation, because the cop claims that the license plate reader they viewed only has my car going through that intersection at the time of the alleged crime I was there only suspect. The cop has me crossing the intersection at approximately 6PM, and home at 6:20pm which is impossible because the intersection is roughly 38-45 min away depending on traffic. In addition I made a stop before going home pumping gas at a gas station 9 miles away from this intersection at the time he has me crossing the said intersection. Despite all this I was arrested, booked, and now have to defend myself in court. The cop was very inexperienced and I feel like he made a gut call due to his inexperience and now I’m having to deal with the consequences of his negligence. I’ve spoken to a few lawyers and will now have to hire one to represent me as I do not want anything on my record for something I did not do. I would understand if I had some sort of altercation with someone but to not even have any sort of conversation with anyone and simply drive through an intersection to have this now on my plate is pretty bizarre. My family and I now have to deal with the cards we are dealt and it’s taking a strain on us financially, emotionally, and affected us in so many ways. What course of action can I take to defend myself? And to hold these people accountable?
