Got A Ticket For Move Over Law

Card image cap

Location: Rock Hill SC Hello I recently got a ticket driving on the interstate in York County SC. I got pulled over for not quickly merging when there was a stop on the shoulder. I was cited under the move over law in SC. The traffic violation code is 56-05-1538(G): Endangering Police Personnel. I got the citation and the official ticket posted in their website with the amount to pay. The ticket states that I have to pay 1062.50 dollars. I am a college student and do not have that type of money. It will take me a month to make 1000 dollars at a minimum. I had tried to merge but a car in front of me slammed on the brakes and I was unable to maneuver to the next lane and I panicked. What can I do? Is my best bet to hire a lawyer and show up to court?? This is my first ticket as well. Also I read on the news that from September 15th to the 19th SC law enforcement apparently launched a 5 day initiative to cite people under the move over and hands free driving law. I understand that this law has been in place and it was my mistake but the amount is very high and I do not know how to pay it.
