Former Student And His Family Accusing Me Of Identity Theft. Since They’ve Found Nothing He Deposited $60 Into His Old Child’s Checking Account Last Friday. How Do I Get Rid Of It And Get It To Him Without Touching It And Looking Guilty?

A few years ago I got a call from one of my best and favorite former students (from a bad home situation) because his aunt kicked him out and he’d been living in his truck for the past several weeks. So I took him under my wing. He was a few months from turning 18 so one of the things I did to help him out and get him on his feet was for us to open up a “kids” checking account through my bank account for him

Fast-forward to now…he’s almost 20. Last week (Monday 9/22) he found an old piece of notebook paper with his personal info on it in my handwriting. Since then, he and his family have been accusing me of identity theft and saying they’re going to “take me down.”

Then, on Friday (9/26), he deposited a $60 check into that same account. My concern is that they’re trying to make it look like I’m stealing from him if I touch the money (which clears tomorrow Monday (9/29)

My assumption is because they couldn’t find any proof of identity theft in the past week (because there is none) they’re trying to make it look like once I touch that $60 I’m trying to steal his money. This feels like a sloppy setup. What do I do? How do I get that money out and to him without touching it and seeming to be taking it?

Edit: I want to thank everyone for their time, thought, and contribution. My plan is to go to the bank and ask to have my name removed. If they can’t then I’ll just leave the money there untouched and maybe communicate with the family to withdraw the money so I can close the account.

(However there have been a few interesting comments lately mentioning that since it’s a joint account with both of our names on it theoretically I can use that money as I see fit, for example on our water bill it’s $67.XX.

I don’t have the balls to attempt that if there’s even a 1% chance it could backfire but boy would that be hilarious haha) <<< This is a joke
