Can I Be Forced To Sell My House Over My In-laws Divorce? (oregon)

Card image cap

Location: Oregon

My wife, her parents, and I own a home. My father-in-law, my wife, my kids, and I live in the home.

My in-laws are getting divorced. It's not going well, it's getting really nasty, they have a trial date set for December. My wife and her mother are not on speaking terms and they do not have a relationship anymore.

My father-in-law is concerned that we might lose the house in the divorce, which will force us to sell it, or refinance it which will increase our interest rate by quire a bit - we're currently at 3.5 percent. Worried if we need to refinance, it will increase our monthly enough that we can't afford it.

My wife and I haven't been called as witnesses, been served any papers, or been contacted about this.

Just wondering if we need to preemptively have a lawyer, does my mother in law need to serve us directly, would this be a separate thing we would fight after the trial of it comes up, what can I expect?

I don't know if it matters, but my wife and I are paying the mortgage , insurance, repairs, etc. my father in law contributes $300 a month for food and for us taking him to his medical appointments.

Edit:

The home was purchased in November 2019

Purchase price: $394k

Parents paid 19k for the down payment. They gifted us this money so we would pay it but mother in law is disputing that happened. So let's assume the parents paid 19k.

They started divorce proceedings August 2024. They are still not divorced.

All 4 of us are on the deed. My wife and I are on the mortgage

We owe 320k on the home

Current value, about 480k

Her parents own a condo in Hawaii, and 4 vehicles.
