NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Marriott has appointed Thorsten Leighty as its new Director of Food & Beverage, a strategic promotion that places the long-time executive chef at the helm of all culinary and beverage operations across the property.

Located in the heart of the French Quarter, the New Orleans Marriott is one of the city’s flagship hospitality venues. In his new role, Leighty will oversee the hotel’s dining outlets, banquet services, and in-room dining, with a continued emphasis on delivering high-quality, locally inspired food and beverage experiences for leisure and business guests alike.

Leighty first joined the New Orleans Marriott in 2013 as Executive Chef, bringing with him more than two decades of international culinary experience. Originally from Wiesbaden, Germany, he previously held senior roles at luxury properties such as Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach, JW Marriott Ihilani in Hawaii, and JW Marriott Starr Pass in Arizona.

His leadership in New Orleans has been pivotal in shaping the hotel’s culinary direction over the past decade. From revamping banquet operations to launching new dining concepts that draw on the city’s diverse culinary influences, Leighty has become a key figure in the property’s food and beverage strategy. His expertise spans Cajun, Creole, and global cuisines, and he has led kitchen teams for high-profile events including the Academy Awards and VIP state functions.

“Thorsten’s passion for culinary excellence and his deep understanding of our guests’ expectations have made him an invaluable leader,” said Frank Zumbo, General Manager at New Orleans Marriott. “Over the past decade, he has elevated our dining experiences by blending the city’s vibrant flavors with world-class hospitality. We are thrilled to see him take on this expanded role and continue shaping the future of our food and beverage program.”

As Director of Food & Beverage, Leighty will manage the hotel’s four dining venues, alongside banquet and catering services for events and conferences. His remit also includes enhancing the in-room dining experience and further aligning the F&B offering with both local culinary traditions and changing guest preferences.

“I’m honored to step into the Director of Food & Beverage role at New Orleans Marriott,” said Leighty. “For more than a decade, I’ve had the privilege of being part of a team that celebrates New Orleans’ rich culinary heritage. I look forward to building on that tradition, creating memorable dining experiences for our guests, and leading our talented team to new heights.”
