The NFL, in conjunction with the NFLPA, has initiated a review of the concussion protocol involving New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart during Thursday night's 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the league announced Friday

Dart took a hard hit from Eagles linebacker Patrick Johnson in the third quarter and was slow to get up. He was able to jog off the field and was taken into the blue medical tent to be evaluated for a concussion.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll, eager to know when he could put his rookie starting quarterback back into the game with New York leading 27-17, went over to the tent to look in as Russell Wilson entered the game. Rookie running back Cam Skattebo also went inside to check on Dart before being asked to leave.

Non-medical personnel are not allowed inside the blue medical tent during a player evaluation.

Daboll was later shown on the Prime Video broadcast yelling at team orthopedist Dr. Scott A. Rodeo, who was not involved in Dart's evaluation.

Daboll said he apologized to Rodeo and explained after the game why he got so emotional in the moment.

“Look, if you’ve ever been on an NFL sideline, there’s a lot of emotions,” Daboll said, via The Athletic. “And I certainly am an emotional guy. I apologized directly to our team physician. I just wanted [Dart’s] ass out there — if he was OK — but I wanted the process … like, we were getting ready to go for it on a potential fourth down. I would’ve burned a timeout if he could’ve came out there, so I was asking, ‘How long is it going to take?’

“So, again, you want your guy out there. Not at risk of anything else. But he came out, ‘I think he’s gonna be good.’ I’m like, ‘Is he gonna be good or not? I’m gonna call a timeout on fourth down and go for this.’ So, I love our doctors. … I apologized. I was in the wrong. But he’s all right. He gave me a hug.”

Dart returned to the game and finished 17-for-25 for 195 yards with passing and rushing touchdowns.

Skattebo told reporters he "was making sure Jaxson wasn't hurting anybody in the injury tent" when he ventured inside to check on his quarterback.

Daboll said Friday that he looked into the tent to check on Dart, "a player that's important to us, important to me." He added, "In no way would I want a player to come back out there that wasn't ready to play. ... I was wondering if it took 10 minutes, if it takes an hour, if it took 2 minutes ... to make a decision on the game. Health and safety is important to us, is important to me."
