Do You Trust Tyson Bagent Or Case Keenum More Against The Eagles?

The Chicago Bears have a big matchup on Monday Night Football, taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Bears lose, they’ll fall below .500 for the first time in a year. It’s only game three, but obviously, everyone would like to see the Bears get back on track after a tough loss in week two against the Minnesota Vikings.

Caleb Williams was knocked out of the game, and Ben Johnson has said that he is week-to-week, but almost everyone is certain that he will miss the Eagles game. If he does, that means it will either be Tyson Bagent, if he can clear concussion protocol, or Case Keenum, the veteran QB who has been mostly considered an assistant QB coach in a Bears uniform.

Bagent has the youth; Keenum has the veteran experience (but is it too much experience, if you know what I mean).

Who do you trust more against the Eagles: Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum?

I think the easy answer without thinking would be Tyson Bagent. But this Eagles defense is led by the great Vic Fangio, and we know that Vic has the ability to put inexperienced QBs in a blender. Would the Bears be better off with Keenum, who happens to be 3-0 career against Fangio (albeit when he was much younger), who can read a defense as well as anybody in the league and make snap decisions with the football?

Answer: This one, for me, is really difficult to answer. I think the idea of Keenum makes a ton of sense to go up against the Eagles and Fangio. He is a statue back there, but he can stand and deliver. The question is, who is Case Keenum at this point? In the preseason, Keenum was outstanding (as he was in the 2025 preseason as well). Keenum was 25 of 40 for 354 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs. That’s good enough for a 107.7 rating. However, we have to take into account that he was going up against 3rd-stringers.

Keenum hasn’t thrown a ball in the regular season since 2023, and in his final four years where he played (2020-2023), the numbers were poor. He threw just 140 attempts over those 4 years and had a yards-per-attempt average under 6. He also had as many INTs as TDs (4 each).

So we have to ask ourselves: with Keenum, are we getting the guy who can operate Ben Johnson’s system brilliantly in the preseason, or are we getting the washed QB that looked terrible in his last few regular-season games?

While I’ve been leaning towards Keenum for most of this week, I think, in the end, Bagent, if he can play, makes more sense. Bagent also operates Johnson’s system well in the preseason, and his arrow is pointing up, not down. If it’s Keenum, I don’t think it’s a huge difference. If we ranked QBs on a scale of 1 to 10 to face Philly and Caleb is a 10, I think Bagent is a 6 and Keenum is a 5.

I think the way Garrett Bradbury is playing with those Eagles DTs, I would rather have a more mobile QB in Bagent because I think the Bears will give up a little pressure. So while I will have almost as much confidence in Keenum as I would with Bagent, I think I lean just a little bit on the Bagent side.
