Baltimore Orioles Reinstate Veteran Outfielder From Il

2025 has not been kind to the Baltimore Orioles. While they have dealt with their fair share of injuries to this point in the season, the roster has also failed to live up to expectations early, and it has led them to play to a 13-23 record through their first 36 games.

Reinforcements are on the way however, and the ailing offense will receive a jolt of power as Roch Kubatko of MASN reported on Friday that the team is reinstating veteran outfielder Tyler O'Neill from the injured list.

#orioles reinstate OF Tyler O'Neill from the IL and option INF Coby Mayo to AAA Norfolk. O'Neill hasn’t played for the O's since April 23 in D.C. because of neck inflammation and is batting .215/.284/.385 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBIs in 18 games.

In order to make room for O'Neill on the 26-man roster, the team has optioned infielder Coby Mayo to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.

Neck inflammation has kept O'Neill out of action since April 23, but his bat will be a welcome presence back in the lineup strictly for the power he provides.

Through his first 18 games with the Orioles, O'Neill has batted .215/.284/.385 with two home runs and 10 RBI, but is coming off a 2024 that saw the veteran mash 31 home runs in just 118 games. Finding that power stroke again this year will prove highly beneficial for the Baltimore, as they have yet to find much success from the right side of the plate.

Mayo, 23, was expected to fill the void left behind by O'Neill, but struggled to find consistency at the Major League level.

Through four games this year, Mayo batted just .083/.154/.083 with no extra-base hits across 13 plate appearances.

At the time of writing, Baltimore's lineup for Friday's contest against the Los Angeles Angels has yet to be released. You can expect O'Neill to be in it however, when it does drop.
