5 Things To Watch As Jets Face Broncos In Week 6 Of 2025 Nfl Season

The Jets suffered a disappointing loss at home to the Cowboys in Week 5, with the 37-22 final score being somewhat misleading, as New York was down 30-3 late in the third quarter.

This week they’ve travelled across the pond where they will be hosting the 3-2 Denver Broncos in London.

Here are the storylines to watch as the Jets look to pick up their first win and avoid an 0-6 start…

Can the Jets gain momentum from how the Cowboys game finished?

Offensively, the Jets had most of their success on Sunday in what people would consider to be "garbage time." But Aaron Glenn disputes the notion that the Jets have been padding their stats against defenses who have taken their foot off the gas. "Teams play in this league," he said on Wednesday, "Nobody wants to give up yards."

While many are skeptical of these claims, Glenn is insisting that the passing game has been good and that Justin Fields "got into a groove" down the stretch against Dallas. Whether that carries over to this weekend remains to be seen. As a general rule, the Jets have been moving the ball well early in games but have failed to score a first half touchdown since the opener, so that will need to change.

Of course, the Broncos could have some momentum themselves, having come from 14 down in the fourth quarter to upset the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last weekend.

Will the pass rush step it up?

New York's pass rush looked good in Week 1, as they racked up four sacks, including two by Will McDonald. However, since then, they have just three sacks in four games. In fact, their only sack over the past two weeks came on a play where Dak Prescott could have run for positive yardage but gave himself up at the line of scrimmage rather than running out of bounds to ensure the clock continued to run.

Over the past three games, each of the Jets' opponents have had multiple starting offensive linemen missing, but that hasn’t translated to more defensive line production, even though you would have expected there to be plenty of mismatches. Evidently, teams have been scheming around this deficiency with a quick passing game to mitigate pressure.

Another factor has been the absence of Jermaine Johnson, who has missed the past few games with a calf issue. Glenn is hopeful he can return this weekend, which will give the unit a much-needed boost and prevent the Jets from having to rely on youngsters like Braiden McGregor and Tyler Baron as much as they have been.

How will the Jets slow down the Broncos’ running game?

The Broncos have a top 10 offense that is driven by their No. 4 ranked running game that has racked up 118 yards or more in all five games. J.K. Dobbins is having a great season so far with over 400 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

If the Broncos have success running the ball, that’s another thing that will prevent the Jets from being able to generate consistent pressure -- it will enable Bo Nix to be effective with play-action, and keep the Jets’ linemen from being able to fire off the line.

Can Mason Taylor build on his breakout performance?

One player who seems to be improving on a weekly basis is Taylor, who had the most productive game of his career last week with nine receptions and a two-point conversion. Taylor moved up to fifth among all rookies in terms of receiving yards with the performance.

It’s reasonable to note that most of Taylor’s production came down the stretch, but he still would have derived some confidence from the performance and the Jets will hope that he and Fields are starting to develop some chemistry. Taylor said on Wednesday that he is excited because "every single game, I start trending in the right direction."

A tough challenge for New York's offensive line

The first thing Glenn mentioned when asked about the challenge of facing the Broncos this week was their pass rush, as he admitted that New York’s offensive line "will have their work cut out for them." Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand described their edge rushers, led by Nik Bonitto and his league-high seven sacks, as "problem-causers."

Linebacker Jamien Sherwood also spoke highly of John Franklin-Myers, who has done an outstanding job with the Broncos since New York traded him to them during the 2024 NFL Draft. Sherwood, who played alongside Franklin-Myers for three seasons, praised his leadership, hard work and competitiveness.

The Jets have had some issues in protecting the quarterback over the past few weeks, especially when opposing defenses have been blitzing or running stunts. Rookie Armand Membou is one player who will be hoping to respond positively after being flagged four times for different infractions in the Dallas game.
