Unresponsive Debt Collector

Card image cap

Back in 2017 a debt collection company bought a defaulted student loan I had. They immediately sued for the full amount and tried to garnish my wages. Through my own research I filed for an installment payment plan paying a certain amount every month. The attorneys office representing them failed to show for the court date and I won a default judgement. Since then I have paid monthly without missing a payment. I have never received an invoice or updated balance for the debt. Only a receipt when a payment was made. By my calculations it should be half paid off.

Fast forward to the past few months, I cannot get ahold of the company or their attorney's office. All phone numbers are disconnected. At one point their website was down and only showed a GoDaddy splash page. I contacted the court and they have the same phone numbers for them. I have no way of contacting them to even get an updated balance. I've documented every call I've made to them.

Is my next step getting a lawyer? Should I withhold payments until someone reaches out to me?
