Union Job Permanently Closed Without Warning, Being Forced To Come In And Tear It Down?

Card image cap

Location: NYC I have worked in a union hotel in New York City as the host for 3 years, on Wednesday November 19 we had an entire hotel meeting stating our restaurant will have the last of service due to our lenders and banks pulling out of their contract with he company November 23rd and Tuesday November 25th all of the hotel guests will be asked to leave and the doors locked. Our management had a meeting stating our schedules would be changed from 9-5 (from 4:30-1am for me) for the next few weeks and we will be paid a premium rate to take away the furniture, pile up everything to throw away or donate it, etc. I am confused as to why as customer service employees we are being asked to come into a job that has permanently shut their doors? There are no customers or service. Our union rep has not been helpful as to explaining why but did say that he has lawyers on it but continue to go in as they as paying us. He also explained since they went against the WARN act and gave us no notice we at a certain point will be paid while we are not working, so why can we not start it from the day they closed? We will all be filing for unemployment but I am not seeing as to why the staff would need to tear down a building that had closed. Does anyone have any information about that?
