Tenant Retrieving Possessions After Eviction
Location: California
Tenant is claiming he wants his possessions but is making no effort to attempt to get them. He told my lawyer after court he can’t afford to move anything, has no forwarding address, doesn’t have a working phone to contact me. Lockout is scheduled for next week so lawyer told him to be out by then and it won’t be a problem. The house is filled with junk so I doubt it’s empty by then. Since he is claiming he can’t contact me to make arrangements to pick his stuff up that’s solely on him right? Even if I hand delivered a notice to him he’s saying he can’t contact me to pick the stuff up at a later date. I know I have to hold onto his stuff for 15-18 days I’m prepared for that the issue is him saying he doesn’t have the means to get his stuff when I know he does. I just have a feeling he’ll tell the courts I’m preventing him from getting his stuff when he’s making the situation harder than it needs to be. My lawyer cannot technically help me in this situation either. After the lock out is done my lawyers job is done.
