Suspected Green Card Marriage Fraud

Card image cap

Location: LOS ANGELES

Hi everyone!

Not sure what to do some turning to reddit for some advice and also to get this off my chest.

This is not my situation but a close family members

They got married in 2024 to a individual who was on a student visa and then subsequently helped them file for their green card

they received the the work permit fairly easily without an interview or anything (not sure entirely how the process works)

They have now been married for almost 2 years in June.

The relationship from the start was very rocky but my family member decided to stick through it because they love them. However they ignored many red flags in the process.

I recently have come across some proof (undeniable proof) in the form of messages with another family member + the individual talking about how they plan to leave the marriage once they get their 10 year- permanent green card.

What can this family member do to protect themselves or is it too late?

from my understanding they haven’t had their interview yet.

Please let me know if you have any questions, i apologize for the formatting and secrecy, it’s a very sensitive situation and im trying to understand how to proceed.

Thank you!

edit: work permit- not green card
