Reduced Hours After Coming Back From Medical Leave?

Location: NC
Hello all,
I’m in a little bit of a weird situation with my employer and am seeking advice. I work for a popular corporate grocery store as a clerk and today I had my hours reduced after coming back from medical leave.
2 months ago I went to the hospital for 9 days after my GI system shut down from a virus. I was out of work for about those 2 months and recently came back to work with reduced hours thinking I would get my schedule back. Today I spoke with a manager who basically said “once you come back from medical leave you are only guaranteed a job, not hours”. My hours went from 40 to 26 with no guarantee it will go back to normal. The manager made another comment of “our needs are more important than yours”. I have medical bills and rent to make, I don’t make much more than minimum wage.
Obviously I’m looking for employment elsewhere but all of this seems like retaliation/FMLA violation. However for FMLA, you have to be there for 12 months and I’m right at 11.
Any advice on this is greatly appreciated, I’m really at a loss on what to do. Thank you in advance.
