Property Co-owner Won't Sell (il)
Location: Illinois.
I'm primarily not sure what our options are or whether we need to find a lawyer/realtor.
My father in-law (FIL) and mother in-law (MIL) own a home together however they got divorced and supposedly the agreement said he would refinance and give her sum of cash to take her name off the house. That never happened and the agreement expired years ago. Not sure if it's relevant but MIL did move out for a couple of years. However, just recently she moved back in, along with her BF because they recently got evicted (no money).
None of them have money. We've been helping financially where we can but, the house should've been on the market half a year ago and we can't sustain supporting him anymore. MIL is deluded and thinks she can last a year until foreclosed causing everyone to walk away with nothing. She also claimed (to others) she will not sell unless they get X exaggerated amount each.
Our ideal outcome is to have FIL walk away with some pocket change to hold out until social security kicks in.
