Neighbor Nextdoor Keeps Calling Cops On Us For Mundane Things. It Feels Like Harassment. Is There Any Recourse? Missouri
Location: Missouri
We have a house in a rural area but within city limits. The neighbor's property is adjacent to ours. They have a decent sized pond and their house is across from it, which gives our houses some decent distance to each other.
The lady calls the cops on us frequently for anything. We probably get nearly a dozen calls per year, and it never amounts to anything. Here's some examples:
Burning brush on our property, despite having a burn permit. She did not ask us beforehand. Firemen showed up, saw no issue, and left
Young kids playing in the backyard while it's dark out and being kind of loud. It's true they were a bit loud, but it was clearly play and they were laughing on the trampoline. We got a text from her saying "What's wrong with your kids?" before a cop knocked on our door and did nothing. Noise ordinance was not in effect.
Cops were called because she thought my kids were abandoned at home. Why? Because she saw wife leave the house on her car. That's it. Didn't occur to her that I was home with them, I guess. Cops showed up, saw me answer the door, and left.
Cops were called because there was construction while our driveway was getting paved. Cops came, saw nothing was wrong, and left.
Cops called because apparently my kids were too close to her pond. There's a fence that separates our property and hers where the pond resides. Our kids did not cross the fence.
Cops called because she thought my wife and I were having sex outside in our hot tub. We were holding each other like you might in a movie theater or on a couch while having drinks. Nothing more. Not to mention you would need binoculars to see anything happening if you're in her house. Cops came around and asked us to "be mindful" while doing nothing else.
Anyway, you get the idea. The common thread is that she never talks to us with concerns, and immediately calls the cops, and nothing significant happens other than wasting our time and theirs.
Are there any options here? Would an order of protection be appropriate? We never interact with the neighbor but she keeps trying to police everything we do without evidence. I don't want to reconcile with her or make nice. I just want her to leave us tf alone.
