My Neighbor’s Dog Bit Me And Sent Me To The Hospital. Do I Need A Lawyer?

Card image cap

Location: Ohio. This happened in late April.

I was walking on the sidewalk. Their dog was in their garage, unrestrained. The garage door was open. When I walked by, the dog charged me and bit my arm. I yelled and it got scared and ran back into their garage.

There were several witnesses, as well as security camera footage from the neighbor who lives in front of them.

Police were called and a report was made. There is no doubt that the dog’s owners were at fault.

I had to go to the hospital and get stitches. Fortunately, I’ve pretty much healed by now.

I don’t seem to have any long-term health problems. I do not have any missed income since I’m able to work from home.

However, I do have young children who saw what happened and are afraid to leave the house.

I haven’t received any medical bills yet, but so far the owners seem willing to pay them.

My question is: assuming the homeowners are cooperative and follow through with paying my medical bills (or their insurance does), is there any reason why I should need to hire an attorney?
