Midas Destroyed My Engine And Is Giving Me The Cold Shoulder About A Reimbursement

Card image cap

Location: Texas

To make a long story short, I went into a Midas on July 2nd for a routine oil change and tire rotation, as I was going to visit a friend ~7 hours away for the 4th of July weekend. Made it about 150ish miles the next day before I heard a pop in my engine. Immediately pulled over and there was oil spewed all over the place. I called a local mechanic and had to drive it roughly 6 miles to his shop, where he found that Midas had left the old oil filter gasket on, plus the new one. Towed the car back to my city at a cost of $1.2k. Midas admitted fault immediately and did a complete engine swap. TAT was about 1 month, so I had to get 2 car rentals during this time period totaling about $1.4k. Midas never told me the daily max that insurance would cover until I had already gotten my first rental and was driving it for several days. Start to finish, it was about a month from the incident date (July 3rd) to the date I received my car back and provided all the receipts for costs incurred (August 6th) I've been going back and forth with the Director of Operations who is overseeing my reimbursement for the two rentals and the tow. I'll ask for an update, but he can never give me one, whether it's "waiting on a signature" or he'll have an update for me by noon, and then just never respond. Repeat ad nauseum for several months. Now, he's not answering my calls or my texts at all and I've been pleading with him to give me something, anything to work with. I've phoned the specific shop and have even gone in physically and they either don't have an update (I don't expect them to, it's not them that's actually taking care of it) or they text him immediately, get a response, and say there's no update. I've emailed the specific shop's office, but haven't heard anything. I've filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General for failure to provide information. I've been more than lenient, but I'm worried a certain statue of limitations will be reached and Midas will just tell me oh well. If it helps, I'm active duty military.
