Married In Nj And Divorce Seems Likely.

My wife (41) and I (40) are both in therapy and starting couples therapy soon, but our relationship is increasingly toxic and painful.

Why is it still up in the air?

Our 7 year old son. The idea of spending less time with him or making a decision that causes him pain or dramatically changes his quality of life is nauseating to me. It may be worth noting that despite the constant fighting, my wife does not want a divorce.

One of the longest ongoing issues in our relationship is that she earns more than I do. This has been the cause of a lot of fighting, but more to the point my way of mitigating the discrepancy has been to deposit my entire paycheck into a shared account for basically as long as we’ve been together.

I have access to our shared accounts but I have no savings aside from my 401k. With this arrangement, what will happen with the funds if I file for divorce.
Fighting has gotten worse. If I were to leave the household but let my son stay here would that hurt me in a custody battle?
