Long Term Relationship Ended, She Owned The House, I Bought Most Of The Furniture. She Damaged Or Destroyed The Furniture While It Was At Her House And Before I'd Found A New Place. Am I Going To Be Able To Recover Anything?

Location: Texas. I was in a relationship for just over 10 years. For around 5 years of the relationship we lived together in my apartment with my things. Eventually I stopped being able to afford that and she bought a house with the money she'd saved and we moved my stuff there. We broke up a few years after we moved to the house and for a few months I didn't have a stable place to live. She verbally promised to hold onto my furniture while I was finding a new place. Then when I returned to pick it up, I found most of it, like my mattress, tables, and chairs, heavily damaged in piles in her garage, so I left it and I've had to try to replace it, but I can't afford comparable replacements for a lot of it. She says I can't prove she was the one who caused the damage so she won't pay for any of it, and that it's my fault for "abandoning" my things at her house. Is there any thing I can do about this, even though the things were at her house and we weren't married? I'm thinking of setting up a consult with a lawyer but I don't want to waste their time and mine.
