Can My Bank Legally Use My Money To Pay My Sister’s Debt?

Card image cap

Location: Michigan, USA My family all goes through a local credit union in michigan and my parents own both mine, and my older sister’s accounts as we were both minors when they were created (we are now both adults). My sister overdrafted her account and because she’s broke, she has no money to even be charged for and so the bank charged me the overdraft fee instead. I called the bank and asked if it could be disputed or refunded, the customer service woman said no and said if i wanted to take any other owners off my account, everyone involved needed to come to the bank and sign the paperwork together. Having my mom on my account is not a problem, but using my money as collateral for my sister’s bad finances is. I am not a co-signer on my sister’s account, i just happen to have an account owned by the same person as her (our mother.) i know co-owners and co-signers can be liable for that debt but am i? just by association?? please help im a 19 year old college student and that money was pulled from my tuition savings, any advice is appreciated.
