Lawyer Filed Motion For Payment But I Don’t Feel I Should Pay Her. Do I Have A Leg To Stand On?

Location: Illinois
Hey guys,
I’ll try to keep this simple.
I hired a lawyer to reduce my monthly child support cost due to a change in my income. I had closed my business and taken a regular job.
Essentially my lawyer stated that due to the closure being voluntary that we should go after a reduction in alimony.
She felt confident that due to my ex having her new partner visit often and them working together she could paint a picture of “a defacto marriage”.
I trusted the lawyer and went ahead based on the fact that she felt so confident.
Long story short she went on a fishing expedition that included her bringing the new partner in court. She asked basic questions and got nowhere.
During the time leading up to this I clearly stated I have no evidence of him living there, vacationing, owning a business together. Nothing.
I feel like I have been taken for a ride at a hefty price tag. So far I’ve given her $5-7k and she wants $4200 more.
I expressed I want a refund and don’t feel this was ethical. She offered to settle at $2k.
I have to respond to the motion shortly. Is this a waste of time guys? Should I just pay her?
