Landlord Ignoring A/c Problems After Being Called Day After Day

Location: Jacksonville, NC

Im in serious need of help. My landlord has been notified many times of the a/c in my apartment not working. In my lease it lists that the landlord will be responsible for all repairs of appliances INCLUDED in the property at the time the lease was signed, which means they should be responsible for fixing my ac unit in my apartment right? Ive called day after day and theyve sent their maintenance guy, a really nice older gentleman, to fix it. He worked on it a couple times, got it running for a few hours, enough to cool the place down from 85 to around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, then it just refuses to continue working and slowly raises back up to 85-95 degrees in the apartment. The landlords’ contact number used to have an after hours phone number for situations like this, but i just tried looking for it today and it seems they have completely erased it from existence. i tried calling the after hours number i called beforehand to try to get ahold of someone to fix the ac problems and it says its no longer a valid number. What legal steps could i do to A. end my lease early and get some of the money back i spent renting out an inhospitable apartment, or B. force them to actually fix it and keep it working??? im at a total loss of ideas.
