How To Find Out If I Am Legally Allowed To Own A Firearm?

Hi everyone, I need help figuring out whether I’m legally allowed to own a firearm.

When I was about 15 I was involuntarily hospitalized after a suicide attempt in Washington. While I was there I was asked to sign paperwork that I was told would revoke my firearm rights, amongst other things, I don't quite recall; I was also told that signing this away would switch the stay as "voluntary” . I wasn't in a place where I cared as a teenager, so I just signed whatever they told me to. That whole period is very hazy and I don’t remember the exact details or what, if anything, was entered on my record.

I’m 23 now and things are fine mental health wise, but I’ve had safety concerns at my current apartment. My family thinks a small firearm for self-defense could help, but I don’t know whether I’m legally eligible to purchase or possess one in WA.

Can anyone tell me what records or documents I should look for, where to check (court, state, federal), and what steps will give me a clear answer about my eligibility? Thank you!

Location: Washington, USA.
