Help Our Family Please, 18 Year Old Son With Mental Health Crisis Arrested After We Called 911.

Location: North Carolina
My 18 year old son with significant anxiety/depression and anger issues (diagnosed with intermittent explosive disorder as a young teen) spent a day of frustration trying to install pergo flooring in a closet space. The day ended in mental health crisis and we ultimately called 911 in desperation after he punched through a window, threw something at me causing minor injuries, and put his dad down on the ground. My son was bleeding from his wounds to his hands and expressed to us that he didn’t care if he lived or died anymore. He broke a bathroom door by smashing his head into it several times. He is on medication currently but has rejected our pleas to talk to a therapist. We were informed by police that they had no choice but to arrest him because of the assault and property damage. They did give us information as victims but we are not sure what happens next for our son. We didn’t necessarily want him arrested, we just needed help and wanted him safe from harm. We also need our home safe and to be safe from harm. So arrest is probably for the best but now we are unable to sleep and not knowing what happens next.
He was booked and charged with simple assault, assault to female, and damage to real property. He is being held under close supervision (suicide watch basically). His bond says $15,000 for each charge or $45,000.
We don’t know how any of this works and we don’t know what to do next. We just want him to get help.
Is there anyone who can help us understand what happens next and what we can do?
