I am seeking advice for my 13yo half sister who currently lives with our biological father and her mother.
There has been a long history of domestic violence in the home, including physical harm, threats, intimidation, and HIGHLY inappropriate behavior toward minors. Authorities have been contacted in the past, but both parents denied allegations including the victims.
Recently my sister experienced inappropriate contact by bio dad that made her feel unsafe. Her mother minimized the situation and did not protect her.
My sister is now in severe emotional distress and has been expressing self-harm concerns and a desire to run away. She feels unsafe in her home but is afraid to report this due to possible retaliation and doesn’t trust anyone. She is scared to tell any adults as they will repost and she fears it will backfire. She needs a plan to leave safely and legally.
There is no family currently able to take her in.
What are the safest legal options for a minor in an actively abusive home where retaliation is likely? – Is there a safer way for her to be removed? – Should this go through a school counselor / mandated reporter?
