Had A Seizure During The Workday, And Was Fired
Very recently(a month and a half ago), I found out I have epilepsy. It ended with me being transported off a job site and to the hospital. It happened again, off the job site, during lunch a few days ago and was fired a few hours later. Some backstory, I live in South Carolina. I was working for a local company through someone else, as a 10-99. The first time I had a seizure that was witnessed by my crew and others, I was on a Construction job site, where I was transported in an ambulance and was away for work for a week and a half. Before I could return, both, my bosses supervisor, and the job site supervisor needed a medical work release. Once I returned, I continued work as normal. Until a few days ago, I had another seizure in a McDonald’s during our lunch time. I was again, transported by ambulance to the hospital, where I was told by my boss, that his supervisor said they no longer could have me on their jobs. My questions are, why did they allow me to come back, knowing it could potentially be an issue in the future? Is this technically discriminatory? Is it at all legal? I read a lot of other posts where their bosses would find excuses to fire them so they didn’t have to say it was due to my epilepsy, but I was downright fired for having epilepsy.
