Golf Cart Reseller Has Had Golf Cart For 1 Year, Won't Respond

Location: Austin, TX
Had a golf cart that my son mainly used to run around our golf community before he got a car. Pretty typical in my area.

It was a bit old, and during the time we had it, I used this guy who did mobile repairs to get a new Lithium battery + new tires + a tuneup on the cart. We spent a lot. When he was there there to redo the tires, I mentioned we would be selling it soon, and he suggested he could take it as he runs a consignment business. When the time came, we opted to do this since we really wanted it out of the garage and didn't want to deal with the Craigslist/FB Marketplace hassles.

That was last November (2024). In the past 6 months, I've reached out no less than 15 times via phone, email, text, to ask him for status. Over the summer, he finally responded and said his wife had passed away (and I did verify it as accurate) and he was catching up, but he had people coming, etc. etc. and would let me know ASAP.

That was 3 months ago. Additional attempts have been completely ignored.

I signed a contract, he 100% took the cart (I have the text confirming when he came) and I forgot we had an Airtag in the cart that shows the last location (9 months ago) at his storage facility. The Airtag has since died.

What are my options? This cart is not a 10k cart, but probably worth 3500-4k. It's not insignificant and I'm so frustrated that I can't pin him down.
I did a search in the legal / tax records to see if he's ever been sued and looks like he has, but for unrelated items (maybe a loan or some other thing that went south).
The most frustrating part is that this guy is a pastor in a local church.

What are my options? Get an attorney to draft a demand letter? I've offered to just come and get it but again, ignored.
