Former Landlord Has My 3 Cats, And They Have Removed Me From The Rental Property. I Would Just Like My 3 Cats Returned.

Location: Colorado

Two years ago, I moved into a new house. Then in March of last year, I suddenly had a brain bleed that knocked me unconscious. I woke up in the hospital and didn't understand how I got there. I was there for 5 weeks as they rehabilitated me.

In the meantime, my landlord decided to kick me out of her house. However, she also decided to keep my 3 cats. This woman already has 4 dogs, and 9 of her own cats, as well as 3 large fish tanks.

In this particular part of Colorado, the maximum amount of pets you are allowed to have is 4 (in owned spaces less than 1 acre, which is what she owns). I have begged and pleaded to just retrieve my 3 cats, who I have had for 8+ years. Her husband said that they were seen as their own cats now, and he would call the police on me if I ever appeared on their property.

When 2 of my cats were neutered/spayed, I had them each get microchipped. The microchips are registered under my name. The third cat doesn't have one, but that's because she is super friendly. These people keep their cats and 2 fish tanks in the basement, and their dogs wander the whole house. I don't see how I am supposed to retrieve my cats, if they are even still living.

Please, I am searching for some legal advice for this matter.
