Dui Story With A Twist

Card image cap

Location: Minneapolis No politics please

My friend called me late late last night sobbing, she was arrested for driving while intoxicated. I don’t have a ton of info from her, but this is the story she told me. I believe her, I’ve known her 10 years and she owns her failures.

Last night she was in the passenger seat of a car and fighting with her husband. He said something particularly hurtful, and she got out of the car on an off-ramp and started walking home. Her husband got out too and followed her, and some stranger called the cops. They had both been drinking but her husband had drank less than her: however, he got scared and when the police came and asked who was driving he lied and said my friend was because he is not a born American and he was worried he’d get deported if he blew over. He has a green card and is a doctor. They have a son together and my friend is also scared he’d be deported, so my friend lied too and went along with the lie and blew over the limit. Her husband did not, he was under.

She was released last night. She is obviously scared she’s ruined her life. I don’t have all the details obviously, but does anyone have any advice? Any thoughts? I feel helpless because I know she’s going through so many emotions and I’m so angry at her husband that he is risking ruining her future to his own benefit, but with a young son I understand why he lied and why she let him.
