Domestic Violence, Hong Kong. Murder Attempt And We Share A Lease / Live Together.

Some background.

I (European expat male) Have been with my Chinese girlfriend for almost 1 year now. She gradually became more violent and controlling. We signed a lease to move in together 4 months ago. Paid upfront, locked in for 1 year minimum. Both names on the paper. 1 week after signing she became violent for the first time and I had to call police to remove her from my old apartment. Since she has control of my phone, decides who I can follow / unfollow, my bank account / spending etc.. I can’t afford the new apartment on my own and she managed to wiggle her way back, sadly. Since moving in, almost weekly she has had a violent or abusive bout. I have recorded about 80% of it on my phone. Each time the first thing I do is hide the kitchen knife. Multiple attacks on me I did not report out of embarrassment. The previous time the police made fun of me “as a man why you let this girl beat you up? Why not hit her back?” They said to me. Insane.

The real big one. My real question.

Second time together on holiday in Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia. 28th November 2025. We had planned our day, decided to go for brunch in Bangsar, have a few casual drinks (we had max 5 drinks, espresso martini) then go to a well known, reputable couples Onsen spa in the city. We had visited this same spa previously on our first trip. It was recommended by a female cousin. Got to the spa and both agreed to do the couples massage. We were given clothes to change into. I went to change, came back out and she was still there in her normal clothes. I asked what’s up? She said she doesn’t want to have a massage and for me to go ahead. I paid a lot of money for us to go, the staff were confused, I was confused. She ensured me to go. So I said, sure. I was led to the room, washed my feet then got on the table (shorts on + towel on top of waist). Was not 2 minutes into the massage (on my upper back) and she burst in saying to get out. Continued to punch and attack me. The manager asked us to leave.

She lost it and started thrashing the room throwing things at me and trying to attack my face. I ran out to the lobby 1st floor (1up from ground). She then pushed me down the stairs. Chased me down and starter to strangle me, saying to “die in hell”. I managed to push her off and ran up to the 2nd floor. She pursued me up, attacking, choking, gouging, abusing me for 25-30 minutes. I recorded majority of it on my phone. I called out for the staff to call the police but refused to call police, didn’t want to damage business. I called twice while being attacked. On the second call she fled the scene.

Police came, I went to the station. Did a report. There was 3+ witnesses, CCTV camera and my recording. The police spoke to the witnesses and they confirmed that I did not fight back. Only asked her to stop and defended myself.

She ran back to our home city Hong Kong. Continued to call and text me non stop. Interestingly her messages say I was with a bunch of prostitutes when she walked into the massage room. I didn’t reply one time to her since the incident. I returned to Hong Kong, spoke to the police today 30th and they said they cannot help as it didn’t happen in Hong Kong. They said I’m stuck living with her.

I have a friend to mediate for us. The (ex) girlfriend agreed to leave tomorrow. I’m staying in a hotel right now, scared to go back. The police told me they cannot come to help until something happens here. I told them I have called the police not more than 4 months ago, showed them the 70+ photos and videos I have of the abuse. They still said something more needs to happen.

As soon as I know she is gone I will change the door code and install a security camera. She has continued to text reminding me she is on the lease and it is her home. I’m battered and bruised, scared to return home and feel like there’s nothing I can do. Is there any way to get her off the lease due to extreme danger to myself?

TLDR: girlfriend tried to kill me on holiday 2 days ago. We live together in HK, both on the lease. Police here said they can’t do anything till she attacks again. Can I get her off my lease at all? Should I seek a lawyer? I’m able to back up everything I say with proof and evidence.
