Divorce Lawyer Advice Needed
Location: Wilmington Delaware. Hello so I’m asking for legal advice for my father. Pretty much him and my mom were married for a little bit over 20 years in the state of Delaware. When they got a divorce he was required to pay her alimony of about 800 dollars a month give or take. 3 years ago my moms mother passed away and my mom inherited about 116,000 dollars. Her current living expenses for rent, utilities, car payment, and insurance has been about 1,700 dollars a month. She has earned an income of around 40,000 dollars a year this entire time. She is also now receiving 2,200 dollars a month from social security through my father. My father hasn’t paid her any alimony for 3 years and is worried about whether he owes her the money or if she’s earned/is earning enough now if he even owes her anything or not. I’ve told him he needs to talk to an attorney but he’s convinced he will still owe her alimony regardless of her inheritance and social security income through him.
Hoping to hear some options from actual legal professional.
