Dealership Sold Me The Wrong Car And Is Now Saying I Owe Money, Or I Need To Get The “lesser Value” One.

Hello!
Location: North Carolina
Two weeks ago, I purchased a brand new 2024 ford bronco. I went to the dealership, test drove the car that I took home that day. It went through 3 different people. The salesman, the financial advisor, and their manager. Everything was squared away and went perfectly.
Today, the salesman called me and asked me to send a picture of the vin? I was a bit confused but sent it anyway. He called back and explained that he sold me the wrong car, and that there was a $2500 discrepancy that I would owe for the one that was sold to me. He also said that they had the correct car at the dealership and that I could come and pick it up. The car I took home was a higher package with better features than the one that they thought they sold me.
To me I thought that was BS. Why should I be responsible for their mistake? This is the car that I test drove. I didn’t test drive the “correct” car. This went through 3 different people and now suddenly they caught this mistake and are saying I either need to pay up for bring it in for the lesser value car.
I then noticed that the vin number on my car doesn’t match the vin on their contract. This is obviously going to be an issue with my insurance…
What can I do? I don’t feel like I should be responsible for their mistake. I’m definitely not trading this back in for the other car. Can they legally force me to pay the difference? Is it possible for them to transfer the VIN number?
Thank you!
