Consent On Unrelated Exams During Surgery

Card image cap

Location: Vermont

When i was in my 2-3 trimester i started getting issues with my gallbladder and found out i had gallstones, i havent had an issue with them since i was 34 weeks, 8-10 months ago. A couple days ago i had another gallbladder attack and called my pcp and im getting a refferal to someone who specializes in gallbladder/gallstones and gallbladder removal. Im debating just meeting with them to see options and if theyll only do surgery then just not getting it and dealing with the attacks. Im terrified of getting surgery because in vermont it is legal for teaching hospitals to do nonconsentual pelvic, breast, and rectal exams. And the hospital id be going to is UVM in Burlington, which is a teaching hospital. Im not sure how i can make sure that it doesn't happen when im under Anesthesia. If theres no way to write on the consent forms for the surgery that i specifically dont want any procedures that are unrelated to the removal of my gallbladder then i think ill just go without the surgery. Even though the gallbladder attacks are extremely painful and sometimes lasts 7 hours, id rather deal with it than assaulted while im unconscious if theres no way to make sure it doesn't happen.
