Charger Damaged My Car. Best Approach To Getting Them To Pay For It?

Location: St. Louis area of Missouri.
Hi all. I have a Nissan Leaf. On Monday night, I went to a public fast charger built and operated by the company EV Connect. I had trouble getting the charge started, so I called support. During the call, they told me to plug in my car and then they would remote start the charge session, which they did. The charge started and then about 10 seconds in, their charger completely shut off instantly and started rebooting. I was still on the phone and we waited for the reboot and tried again. This time, the same thing happened about 5 seconds into the charge. They told me there was an issue with their charger, so I unplugged and went to move my car over to their slower charger two parking spaces over. When I got into my car, my car had a light on the dashboard indicating that it thought it was plugged in and still charging, which I’ve never seen or heard of before. I was able to stretch the cables of the slow charger over enough to try those while still on the phone, but we couldn’t get a charge to start. They likely recorded that call.
Fast forward through a lot of my own troubleshooting including another call with EV Connect to try to use their broken charger to fix the problem plus towing over to other, more reliable chargers and trying those until ultimately I had to get my car towed to a Nissan Dealership. Nissan has now looked into it and it’s become clear that EV Connect’s charger damaged my car towed the tune of over $6,000, requiring replacement of two different computer modules. I’ve since had multiple calls with EV Connect, all of which I’ve recorded, where I explained that their machine damaged my car, which they haven’t denied. I also have an ongoing email thread where I sent them the bill per their request. I emphasized that timeliness matters as it costs extra money for Nissan to hold my car and I’m having to pay for Lyfts to get me to work and back, and that if this doesn’t get resolved quickly, then I’ll unfortunately have to resort to taking legal action. While our interactions have been mutually kind, their responsiveness specifically to my email sending the bill has been effectively absent.
I’m now ready to take legal action. I assume I need to find a lawyer, but what’s the best approach and what should I keep in mind?
