Boss Is Claiming He Overpaid Me

Card image cap

Location: North Carolina My boss text me today telling me that he miscalculated my paycheck by $418 usd. I immediately checked my bank account and saw that I had been paid $630 for the two week pay period. Which exactly matches the hours that I was clocked in for.

For more context, I work for an Etsy page that prints tee-shirts. I was told at the beginning that we paid for the cost of materials for anything we mess up, which I agreed to verbally. Three weeks ago I (supposedly) miss-aligned the placement of a bulk shirt order around 25 shirts (guessing/assuming) I feel like this is what’s going on because the material cost of the shirts is about $18 a shirt, which would math out to just over $400. But again, I can only assume but I’ve never been told what went wrong other than it’s a fall themed bulk order. The mistake wasn’t noticed by me or anyone else in the building before it shipped out. but she told me the customer was really angry.

TLDR: my boss said he overpaid me $418 on a $630 bi-weekly paycheck (45ish hours is what I clocked in for) I believe he is trying to trick me into covering the cost of a mistake I am not legally obligated to pay for.
