Apartment Won’t Do Anything About My Squishy Wall Or Carpet Pond

Card image cap

Location: Minnesota

6-15: I came home from work at 10pm to find a 5ft by 3ft sopping wet carpet under my wall mounted ac unit and an unnaturally squishy wall with bubbling paint. Spend an hour using a spot cleaner to suck up most of the water before putting in a maintenance request.

6-17: Call the maintenance dude who lives in my apartment, he also puts in a request. Puddle dried and left a very disgusting brown stain and made the carpet crunchy ????

6-20: Call the leasing office to ask about it and they give me the number to the other maintenance dude, left a voicemail and got a text back right away. I answered and got nothing back.

6-23: Guy finally answered back saying my request was sent to a subcontractor and that they would reach out to me, asked when I would hear back. The silence that followed was deafening.

Today: Nothing from anyone, radio silence. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are going to try to make me pay for the damages but no clue why I think this. They also sent me a notice to quit because I have not paid this months rent yet even though I was told I have until the end of the month

I’ve paid all my rent since I’ve moved in along with all late fees so I don’t really know how to feel about all this but can’t afford to break my lease and move out. I was also told that I only needed to pay first and deposit but I also paid last months rent and asked if I could use my last months to pay for either this month or next month to get ahead of rent and the leasing office said “no I don’t think so”.

I guess I’m just wondering about people’s thoughts or advice on this situation, I’m living off one income and while it is good it’s also not the best.
