Apartment Lease Contract Woes

Card image cap

location: Dallas, Tx Hey there, so to hopefully cut to the chase and not blab on too much, been living in a apartment complex here for a while and ran into some…..annoyances with the complex.

First and foremost issue right now is seeing if I have any options at all having to not pay for two months of “per monthly” rent after my contract is officially up.

Called them a couple of months ago inquiring about early termination, definitely realized that’s not a route I want to go so….confirmed my contract was up this month, 6/24/25, and was happy with that.

Well….totally forgot about a written notice is needed (yes, like an idiot I’m sure), though was promptly reminded when I told them I was ready to move out this month.

Problem is, I really don’t know if I can further weather the finances for this. I’ve had my other property for a bit that have been trying to move to and due to some other fun life stuff (divorce, taxes post divorce) I’ve taken about every loan I can get.

So now my question, finally, is it worth it at all to take any of this to small claims court? I understand likely not since ya know “it’s in the contract..” but also not a lawyer and didn’t know if there’s any chance of any type of legal route or if that would just be pointless and look like an idiot.

So yeah, just seeing if there’s any possible small chance here before just crossing my fingers and possibly begging family/friends.
