"friend" Sold My Guitar And Their Car Was Repoed With My Property Inside - And They Won't Help Me Recover My Property

Location: Ohio/USA
A "friend" let their car get reposessed and it had a guitar pedal in it. He was also lent a guitar that he chose, instead, to sell without notice and stole a TV from us. Spouse and I have tried several times to get the name of the repo company and information about the guitar he sold but the person is agressive and threatening. They refuse to provide the information for us to recover the belongings - at minimum, the pedal is brand new. We have texts from the person saying they know they're our belongings and that they sold them for rent and beer money. They've also texted my spouse "kill yourself, pull trigger" multiple times.
Per the sherriff who just left, we have no legal recourse other than civil. They documented it but as it was not "active theft" (tv we're just letting it drop, it's not worth the headache) they can't charge him with a crime. Car is up for auction in 3 weeks and I don't see civil suit going quickly enough with that deadline. What can I/we do? Seems to me it's pretty clear cut as theft yet I'm at a loss what to do here. We contacted who is likely the towing company but they will ONLY give information to the owner.
