A new management and consulting firm has joined the senior living industry.

This week marked the launch of the new company, Mimi Senior Living. The New Albany, Ohio-based firm officially launched Aug. 12, and is set to offer owners and investors third-party management services for independent living, assisted living and memory care property management along with oversight of operational budgets, staffing, regulatory compliance, finances, culture and teamwork.

The company in part seeks to help companies and investors getting into the senior living industry that lack experience in it, according to COO Stephanie Hess.

“We know that it’s about care as much as it is about real estate,” Hess told Senior Housing News. “We have a nice combination of services to offer, and we really want to have tailored solutions.”

Hess has more than 30 years of experience in senior living across a variety of roles, including nursing home administration, executive director and caregiver. Most recently, she was the senior vice president of operations for Wallick Communities, a company that specializes in such areas as affordable senior housing and affordable assisted living.

The company is in “meaningful conversations” with several potential partners to take on new community management agreements, though it is too early in the process to make formal announcements, Hess said. Mimi Senior Living will likely focus its efforts in the Ohio area and neighboring states including Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Kentucky, a region the company’s leaders know well.

Mimi Senior Living is striving for longer-term relationships with clients and partners, with a goal of lasting more than five years.

“My experience has been that it takes a little time to get up and going, but once you do that, investment can just keep giving you a high return,” Hess said. “We provide that longevity to the team and the residents at the community level … The consistency is what I and my team are after, because otherwise it feels like it’s not such a great resident experience.”

She added: “We also have partners out there who are wanting to join our team at some point that provide other sorts of service level opportunities, from culinary to environmental. As we grow, we hope to add some of those positions to further enhance the team’s experience.”

Moving forward, the company is focused on securing its first partnerships and getting communities onboarded. Ideal partners will have a focus on the care for residents equally as much as the real estate, Hess added.

“Finding a partner that feels that same way is really important to us,” Hess said.
